Information for new mirror sites: There are two ways to mirror Linux Gazette. 1) The HTML root directory of Linux Gazette is provided here as: ftp.ssc.com /pub/lg/www_root You can use the FTP mirror program to easily mirror this onto your web site. Mirror package is available at ftp://src.doc.ic.ac.uk/packages/mirror/mirror.tar.gz NEW! You can now use rsync instead of mirror. This saves bandwidth, because rsync transmits only the changed portions of files. Some users report that rsync is also more reliable. Rsync configuration hints can be found at http://www.linuxgazette.com/lg_faq.html#rsync The FTP directory is updated nightly from the web server, and includes the entire Linux Gazette site. 2) Also each month, I put a gzipped tar file containing the latest issue on our FTP site: ftp://ftp.ssc.com/pub/lg/lg-issue##.tar.gz, where ## is the issue number The files common to all issues is in: ftp://ftp.ssc.com/pub/lg/lg-base.tar.gz Directory setup: /lg is main directory /gx and subdirectories contain gif files common to more than 1 issue /issue01to08 and subdirectories contain all files for issues 01 to 08 /issue09 and subdirectories contain files all files for issue 10 /issue10 and subdirectories contain files all files for issue 11 etc. lg_frontpage.html (or index.html) is the file you should point to. The table of contents for all issues are linked to this file. When you have your mirror set up, let us know, and I'll get you added to our list of mirror sites. There is a notification form you can use on our web site: http://www.linuxgazette.com/mirrors.html Be sure to subscribe to our announcement service. Write lg-announce-request@ssc.com with the word subscribe in the body, so that each month you will receive an e-mail notice when we post the latest issue. -- ______________________ _________________________________________ Mike Orr, webmaster | Editor of the _Linux Gazette_ gazette@ssc.com | SSC, Publishers of Linux Journal ---------------------- -----------------------------------------
