NEC Technologies is recalling the main battery unit in its original
notebook computer, models PC-17-01 and PC-17-02, after reports of the
portables short circuiting after the battery was overcharged. The event
can include smoke and fire, and damage is irreparable! About 13,000 units
were sold between 1988 and 1990. Owners of the models should contact NEC
at 800-237-2913 to receive a new battery.

JCS Marketing Inc is starting a new shareware distribution mechanism for
shareware authors. They plan to produce and distribute a "Vendor Update"
CD-ROM eight times per year that will be available to shareware vendors

The first annual Windows Solutions show was such a success that the event
will triple in size next year when it moves to San Francisco's Moscone
Center. As the West Coast's only major Windows show - and the only Windows

vendors and end users alike.

NEMA's industrial automation division has published a 100-page Programmable
Motion Control Handbook which represents, according to NEMA, a broad base
of motion control component and system vendors. The handbook also includes
a listing of more than 50 manufacturers subdivided into areas of

shipping and handling. BOMICO, the second largest publisher in Germany is

A newly formed industry consortium, the Association of Thermal Transfer
Technology (ACT), will help supply more advanced color-printer-based
products while promoting the technology's application-specific advantages.
The color thermal transfer printers are based on ink-jet technology, which
is responsible for the high quality output. The ACT consortium consists of
printer manufacturers and suppliers, including Armor Nantes, Calcomp,
Diafoil, Fujicopian, International Imaging Materials, Mitsui Plastics, and
