Bitstream First To Offer An Entire Typeface Library In TrueType Format For
Windows 3.1

Cambridge, Mass. (September 14, 1993) -- Bitstream Inc. announced today
that it is offering its entire typeface library of nearly 1,100 faces in
TrueType format for the Microsoft Windows 3.1 operating environment.
Available immediately, the TrueType version of the Bitstream Typeface
Library (BTL) makes Bitstream the first and, at present, only major
digital type foundry to offer its complete type library in this format.

The BTL in TrueType format for the Microsoft Windows 3.1 environment is
available directly from Bitstream at 1-800-522-FONT, as well as through
authorized resellers. Pricing per BTL font in this format begins at
$32.25.

"We are proud to be providing the award-winning Bitstream Library in
TrueType format," said Ray Boelig, chief operating officer at Bitstream.
"TrueType has dearly become the typographic standard in the Microsoft
Windows 3.1 environment. The availability of a high-quality type library
in the TrueType format will make it possible for Windows users to finally
take advantage of the quality and performance of TrueType faces, while
gaining access to a wealth of typeface designs only available to
PostScript users until now.

"The BTL is one of the world's largest sources of high-quality digital
type," Boelig said. "By adding the TrueType version of the library--it is
already available in PostScript Type 1 format for the IBM PC and
Macintosh--Bitstream has achieved a big step in its stated strategy of
providing its library in all formats for all platforms. Moreover, we
believe that the BTL, as the first TrueType version of a standard-setting
typeface library for Windows 3.1, is going to become the preferred type
library in the format of choice."

Larry Oppenberg, vice president of Type Operations, said he expects the BTL
in TrueType format for the Microsoft Windows 3.1 environment to appeal
equally to a range of users, from individuals to businesses, such as
desktop publishers, designers, graphic artists, and corporate marketing
communications departments. General target markets are small office and
home office desktop publishing, graphics, business publishing, and graphic
artists.

Oppenberg also said he believes the TrueType BTL version's key benefit for
customers of these businesses and individuals is Bitstream's demonstrated
commitment to maintaining the highest level of typographic standards, and
to providing top-quality text and decorative typefaces in the important
technical formats for all platforms.

Headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., Bitstream Inc. is an industry leader in
