PROXIM AND FLUKE PARTNERSHIP BRINGS WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS TO REAL-TIME
DATA COLLECTION

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif, Sept. 27, 1993 -- Proxim, Inc., the leading supplier
of spread spectrum wireless networking products, today announced an
agreement with the Fluke Corporation, a leading supplier of professional
electronic tools, that has resulted in a new Fluke real-time mobile data
acquisition and transmission system for monitoring multiple remote sites.

Called the Fluke Wireless Logger, the system integrates a Proxim's ProxLink
Radio Module enabling quick and immediate data collection and transmission
from as many as 20 locations once considered too remote, inaccessible, or
environmentally hostile for a real time monitoring system. The system
transmits data up to 800 feet to a PC for analysis, and measures a range
of input types (including thermocouples, DCV, ACV, RTDs, resistance, flow,
pressure, etc.) without an external signal conditioners or danger of
damage from ground loops, common mode voltage, or voltage spikes.

"Proxim's partnership with Fluke represents our continuing efforts to
develop close working relationships with market leading system solution
providers," said David King, Proxim's president and CEO. "Fluke's approach
to integrating wireless technology could serve as a model for system
vendors looking to extend the reach of their existing products. The
company's innovative approach to providing real time data collection
underscores the value of wireless communication technology."

"Providing an integrated wireless system has enabled us to increase the
customers' productivity by providing real-time data collection to areas
that were previously too difficult or expensive to install a hard wired
solution in," said Dave Postetter, Fluke's marketing manager, Data
Acquisition Tools. "Proxim's receptivity to working closely with our
engineers in the early product development stages was one element in our
ability to quickly and successfully bring the Fluke Wireless Logger to
market."

Fluke's decision to integrate the Proxim spread spectrum technology was
based on its requirement for reliability in industrial environments and
the need for immunity to electrical interference. In addition, since no
FCC radio license is required for operation, the Fluke Wireless Logger can
be set-up anywhere, anytime.

Fluke's business focus is on new and growing markets for compact,
professional electronic test tools. Fluke products are used in service,
manufacturing test and quality functions in a variety of industries
throughout the world. Fluke, headquarted in Everett, Wash., was founded in
1948, has over 2,700 employees worldwide. About Proxim

Proxim is the leading supplier of wireless spread spectrum radio networking
products for local area environments. The company's unmatched spread
spectrum radio design expertise, combined with its extensive experience
serving the data networking needs of the mobile computing user, have
positioned the company at the forefront of the emerging wireless LAN
market. Proxim develops, manufactures and markets four distinct families
of wireless networking products.

Proxim's RangeLAN2 is a family of high performance wireless systems
designed for the corporate LAN market. Based on frequency hopping spread
spectrum technology in the 2.4-2.483 GHz band, RangeLAN2 offers the
longest range and lowest power consumption of any wireless LAN product in
its class. It delivers an uncompressed data rate of 1.6 Mbps per channel
over 10 independent channels. RangeLAN2's data rate exceeds the
performance requirements of most standard PC applications, making it an
ideal wireless system for high speed LAN environments. The RangeLAN2
family includes RangeLAN2/PCMCIA for notebook and handheld computers,
RangeLAN2/ISA for desktop PCs and servers, and RangeLAN2/Bridge for
plug-and-play network access to standard wired LAN environments. All
RangeLAN2 systems come bundled with Proxim's advanced RangeLAN2/Roaming
software, a capability developed for Proxim's original RangeLAN family of
adapters. RangeLAN2/Roaming allows mobile computer users the unprecedented
ability to move seamlessly from one LAN access point to another without
ever losing connection to the network, effectively creating
"microcellular" in-building wireless networks.

Proxim's original award-winning RangeLAN family of products, shipping since
1992, is designed for less data-intensive LAN applications such as E-mail,
printer-sharing and file transfer, as well as many industry-specific
mobile computing applications. Operating at a data rate of 242 Kbps per
channel across three independent channels, the original RangeLAN family
has a range of 300-500 feet in normal office environments and 800-1000
feet in outdoor or open space environments. The RangeLAN family includes
RangeLAN/PCMCIA for portable computers, RangeLAN/ISA for desktop PCs and
servers, RangeLAN/LT for Compaq Computer's Contura and LTE notebook
computers, RangeLAN/Parallel for connection to the parallel port of any
PC, and RangeLAN/Roaming, which allows mobile computer users to
automatically switch from access point to access point within a Novell
network.

ProxLink, introduced in 1991, is a self-contained, plug-ant-play wireless
network device with a user-configurable serial port. ProxLink is designed
for lower speed, longer range wireless networking applications. Offered to
end users and VARs, ProxLink offers instant RS-232 connectivity for
applications where it is difficult or impractical to run wires.

In addition to offering end user products, Proxim has offered wireless
networking solutions to OEMs since 1989. The company's numerous OEM
partners have designed Proxim's spread spectrum networking modules into
many mobile computers and terminals. These OEM partners have deployed
Proxim's wireless networking technology in a broad range of
industry-specific applications, including retail, manufacturing,
distribution and health care.

Founded in 1984, Proxim, Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is
the world's leading supplier of spread spectrum wireless networking
products for end users, systems integrators, VARs and OEMs. The company
designs, manufactures and markets an industry leading family of off
the-shelf wireless LAN adapters for desktop and portable systems, as well
as spread spectrum radio modules and wireless RF modems for custom
applications. To date, Proxim has shipped over 50,000 spread spectrum
radio products.
