SYBASE BEGINS COMMERCIAL SHIPMENTS OF GAIN MOMENTUM 2.0

Multimedia Client/Server Development Environment Targeted at Information
Delivery For Extended Office Applications

EMERYVILLE, CA, August 30, 1993 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced the first commercial shipments of
Gain Momentum 2.0, the most recent release of its object oriented,
multimedia application development environment. With Gain Momentum 2.0,
developers can now build interactive information delivery systems that
combine the rich content of multimedia with the flexibility of
client/server computing.

Gain Momentum is one of three products in Sybase's Momentum product family,
also announced today. The Gain Momentum 2.0 software is designed to
facilitate a new class of easy-to-use, yet powerful business applications
that Sybase has identified as "extended office" applications. These
applications are characterized by the requirement to use an information
rich interface to improve productivity of "elective" users such as company
executives, customers or trading partners. Major corporations and
government agencies use Gain Momentum in applications such as decision
support systems, electronic information kiosks, command and control
systems, interactive product catalogs and electronic performance support
systems. By making it easier to interact with business information, Gain
Momentum 2.0 applications extend the reach of client/server systems to new
audiences and increase end user productivity.

GAIN MOMENTUM 2.0

Gain Momentum has been in production since May 1992. Gain Momentum 2.0 was
announced and went into beta test in July 1993. The product consists of
visual development tools; GEL, a fourth generation language (4GL); the
Application/Object Store which enables the effective management of complex
object and their properties, and a suite of multimedia editors. New
capabilities in Gain Momentum 2.0 include seamless, code-free integration
with relational database management systems, specifically SYBASE SQL
Server and Oracle.

Availability and Pricing

Gain Momentum 2.0 is now commercially available on SunSPARC, IBM AIX and
HP-UX workstation platforms. Pricing starts at $10,000 for single
