THE MATHWORKS TO HOLD WORLDWIDE MATLAB CONFERENCE OCTOBER 18-20

NATICK, Mass. Aug. 25, 1993 - The MathWorks, Inc. will hold its first
worldwide technical conference for users of MATLAB and related products in
Cambridge, Mass., Oct. 18-20. The three-day meeting will feature renowned
experts in mathematics, science and engineering presenting more than 150
papers identifying innovative uses of MATLAB, SIMULINK and the family of
related toolboxes.

The MathWorks' executives will also discuss future technical directions of
its product lines, and solicit comments and suggestions from users at the
conference. Sneak previews of new MATLAB products, upgrades and
work-in-progress are expected to be among the conference's technical
highlights.

This is the first time The MathWorks has sponsored a public forum for its
140,000 users to exchange ideas and information for the MATLAB technical
computing environment. A portion of the extensive list of industry
applications to be discussed Includes: Chemical Engineering, Education,
Fluid Dynamics, Fuzzy Logic, Image Processing, Neural Networks, Robust
Control, Signal Processing, Simulation, and Software Development.

Over 150 presentations will describe specific applications of MATLAB,
including: "Innovative uses of MATLAB Related to Medical Imaging and Image
Analysis," by Tom Medl, Sverdrup Technology; "Using MATLAB for Monitoring
and Debugging of Embedded Real-Time Control Systems," by Klas Nilsson,
Lund Institute of Technology, and "Engineering Education," by Deroles
Etter, University of Colorado.

Technical application sessions and teaching laboratories will provide users
with time-saving tips for performing complex tasks and offer first-hand
looks at new and recently-released products. Attendees will be invited to
test recently released MATLAB 4.0, which includes powerful object-oriented
graphics, enhanced 3-D scientific visualization, new language features,
debugging tools, sound and animation.

A focal point of the conference will be "The MATLAB Lab," a resource area
available to attendees interested in receiving assistance from the
technical support and engineering staffs. Users can bring applications
they have created using MATLAB. By sharing and exchanging their MATLAB
files, attendees can acquire useful new tools to enhance their own
technical computing activities.

Registration

The 1993 MATLAB conference will be held at The Hyatt Regency Cambridge, in
Cambridge, Mass. Registration is $395 for users from commercial sites,
$295 for users from educational institutions, and $75 for full-time
students. Group discounts are also available. Attendees are invited to
attend a private evening reception at the Boston Computer Museum. To
register, please call J.R. Schuman Associates, at (617) 235-6373, or
write: 1993 MATLAB Conference, 316 Washington St., P.O. Box 81220,
Wellesley, MA 02181-0002.

MATLAB is the most powerful technical computing environment on the market
today. It provides numeric computation software, a 4GL programming
language, graphics and application-specific toolboxes that allow users to
analyze and visualize data, analyze and optimize engineering systems
designs and algorithms, and create mathematical models.

The MathWorks Inc., based in Natick, Mass., develops, markets and supports
high-performance software for interactive numerical computation,
visualization and dynamic system simulations. The MathWorks' products are
relied upon by more than 140,000 users at the world's leading commercial
and government research laboratories and organizations, and educational
institutions.
