MOLDFLOW MANAGING DIRECTOR COLIN AUSTIN'S TECHNICAL PAPER JUDGED BEST AT
ANTEC 1993

(Shelton, Connecticut -- September 14, 1993) A technical paper written by
Moldflow, Inc. Managing Director Colin Austin was selected as the best
technical paper at Antec 93. The award was presented by Elliot Grossman,
Technical Program Chairman. A review board judged each paper for
originality, technical content, quality and value to the industry using a
numerical scale. The results of each judge's ratings were averaged with
the high mark receiving the award. It is important to note that all papers
were generalized by eliminating the names and author affiliation before
papers were delivered to the review committee members .

The title of the Austin's paper is "Industrial Metamorphosis". The paper
explains that companies who design and manufacture plastics components
using the injection molding process are changing from a craft-based "over
the wall engineering" approach to an approach using teamwork based on
scientific understanding of plastics. CAE plastics flow analysis
technology supplies this understanding. The goal of this industrial
metamorphosis is lean production. Lean production welds the activities of
everyone from top management to line workers as well as suppliers into a
tightly integrated whole that can respond rapidly to marketing demands
from consumers. Lean production can often double productivity and quality
while keeping costs down.

Moldflow, Inc. has pioneered computerized analysis of plastic injection
molding, which improves product performance, reduces scrap, shortens
design leadtimes and lowers design and manufacturing costs. Independent
studies have shown that the company has a dominant market share in its
area of specialty throughout the world. Products include: MOLDFLOW/FLOW --
which predicts flow patterns and characteristics within the mold;
MOLDFLOW/COOL --- which analyzes the vital role of heat exchange and
temperature control in the mold; MOLDFLOW/WARP which analyzes the net
distortion of the actual molded part and helps determine its mechanical
properties; MOLDFLOW/SHRINK -- finite element analysis tool that meets
mold designer needs by predicting an optimum shrinkage value to meet
critical molding dimensions; MOLDFLOW/GAS -- designed to simulate and
analyze the emerging technology of Gas Injection Molding (GIM); and
MOLDFLOW/STRESS -- a structural analysis tool for fiber reinforced
plastics.
