INTUIT ROLLS OUT WINDOWS VERSION OF BEST-SELLING BOOKKEEPING SOFTWARE

QuickBooks for DOS drove unprecedented growth in accounting category in
1992

MENLO PARK, Calif.--August 27, 1993--Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU) today
announced QuickBooks for Windows and QuickBooks Version 2.0 for DOS, two
new versions of the leading software for small business bookkeeping. These
new versions bring exceptional speed to bookkeeping tasks, and provide
new, extensive business-management tools such as automatic tracking and
billing of reimbursable expenses, comparative reports for analyzing
results across multiple time periods, and more preset reports. In
addition, the Windows version provides instant context-sensitive
QuickReports, as well as QuickInsight Graphs for instant graphical views
of financial results.

Intuit introduced QuickBooks in April 1992. QuickBooks currently maintains
a 63 percent share of the accounting market. Representing a breakthrough
in ease-of-use, QuickBooks DOS drove unprecedented growth in the
accounting category in 1992. According to Software Publishers Association,
the ease-of-use accounting category grew over 50 percent in 1992 and
QuickBooks provided about 80 percent of that growth.

"With QuickBooks we've awakened a sleepy software category," said Intuit
President Scott Cook. "How? QuickBooks was the first software package to
bring complete and powerful bookkeeping to the millions of small
businesses that have no knowledge of accounting. Our research shows that
two-thirds of small businesses do not understand debit/credit accounting.
QuickBooks has satisfied a huge untapped market need. Our new Windows
version of QuickBooks, and Version 2.0 for DOS, broaden the market further
and offer small-business people dramatic new benefits," Cook said.

Faster, Easier Data Entry

The new versions of QuickBooks save users time and provide significantly
faster, easier data entry. Reimbursable expense tracking allows users to
automatically bill customers for expenses incurred on their behalf. With
this innovative feature, users can invoice expenses to customers without
entering information twice, saving data entry time and eliminating
mistakes and forgotten reimbursable expenses. QuickFill eliminates
repetitive data entry by automatically filling in information from users'
business lists (such as customer and vendor lists), and by recalling
previous transactions. With as little as two keystrokes, users can enter
an entire check or complete the top portion of an invoice. Automatic sales
tax calculation easily computes sales tax for taxable items on an
invoice.

More Business Insight

Businesses can make more informed business decisions with new reporting
features in QuickBooks. QuickZoom for reports lets users zero in and see
the information behind the numbers on reports. For example, if users see
an amount on a report that they wish to better understand, they can double
click on the amount and "zoom in" to see a detailed list of the
transactions that comprise that amount. They can then select any
transaction from the list and "zoom in" again to see even more detail for
that transaction (e.g., an original check or invoice).

New comparative reports in QuickBooks let users easily analyze changes from
one period to the next, including this year-to-date period vs. the
corresponding period last year, actual vs. budget and more. Profit and
loss statements now provide the option for a "percent of income" column,
to show a more complete view of expenses and how they compare to income.
And with more preset reports--over 50 in the Windows version and more than
20 in the DOS version--users can access information about any part of
their business in seconds. For example, users can instantly produce a
cash-flow forecast report, which automatically projects how much cash they
will have on hand week by week.

In QuickBooks for Windows, new QuickReports allow users to create instant
context-sensitive reports throughout the program with the click of a
mouse. While in the customer list, for example, double clicking on a
customer's name generates a report showing all the activity that makes up
that customer's account balance. With this innovative feature, users can
immediately access information about any customer, vendor, account, item
and more.

Graphics and Formatting Innovations

The Windows version of QuickBooks offers significant advances in graphics
and formatting. The product takes full advantage of the Windows
environment to make learning and usage even easier. New QuickInsight
Graphs give an instant graphical view of the results and financial status
of the business. QuickZoom for graphs allows users to see the details
behind the pictures. The program provides more control over the appearance
of reports, including onscreen column sizing, font control and more.
QuickBooks for Windows also includes innovative onscreen learning tools.
Qcards provide learn-as-you-go instruction on all the features of the
product by giving users the information needed to complete a task just
when it is needed. And QuickTour, graphical on-screen
tutorials-familiarize users with the features of QuickBooks to make
learning even faster.

Beta testers gave the new versions high marks. "QuickBooks is dramatically
faster, easier and simpler to use", said Robert B. Jones, Educational
Marketing. "The new reimbursable expense feature keeps our billing simple
and clear. And reports are even easier to get and more useful than
previously."

Pricing and Availability

QuickBooks for Windows will be available immediately at all major chain and
independent software retailers. QuickBooks Version 2.0 for DOS is expected
to be available in October. Each retails for $159.95 suggested retail
price (SRP). QuickBooks upgraders and Quicken users will be offered
rebates of $45 and $25, respectively. A QuickBooks/QuickPay payroll
software bundle will also be available for both Windows and DOS platforms
for $199.95 (SRP) each.

Requirements and Compatibility

QuickBooks for DOS requires 640K of RAM, a hard disk with 3.5MB free, and
DOS 3.0 or higher. QuickBooks for Windows requires an IBM compatible 386
(or higher) PC, 2MB of RAM (4MB recommended), a hard drive with 9MB free,
and Windows 3.1.

Users of Quicken and users of QuickBooks Version 1.0 for DOS can import
their files directly into either the new DOS or Windows version of
QuickBooks during start-up.

Intuit develops and markets software products that enable households and
small businesses to automate commonly performed financial tasks. Quicken,
the Company's original product, allows users to automate their personal
finances. In April 1992, the Company introduced QuickBooks, its first
small-business accounting product. To complement Quicken, QuickBooks and
its other software products, the Company offers a broad range of supplies,
including checks, invoices and forms. In addition, the Company has a
number of service offerings, such as the Quicken VISA card with
IntelliCharge, that work with its software products to further automate
financial tasks.
