ELECTRONIC ARTS CAUSES A SHOCK WAVE!

Chicago, IL - June 3, 1993 -- Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS) has announced
the release of Shock Wave: Invasion Earth 2019 for the 3DO Interactive
Multiplayer.

Shock Wave is a science fiction flight simulation featuring 3D graphics
beyond anything ever seen in the videogame market. Building upon the
processing power of the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, the Shock Wave
development team, led by designers Michael Becker and Stewart Bonn, have
blended video and photographic images with 24-bit true-colour artwork
(rendered on a Silicon Graphics system) to create a realistic and
graphically-stunning gameplay environment.

The year is 2019, and for the first time in our history, the Earth's
nations are no longer warring against each other. In this unprecedented
time of global peace, the United Nations launches the UNS Omaha, the
world's first orbital aircraft carrier. The Omaha's mission is research
and exploration, and eventually, mankind's first colonizing mission to the
stars. But someone else is watching, and waiting...

Without warning, Earth is bombarded from space by an unknown alien race.
Military bases and airfields are instantly destroyed in the brutal attack.
As the huge alien armada moves to land and destroy the last few remaining
human defense forces, it looks like there is no hope for the survival of
the human race. But, miraculously, the Omaha has managed to escape
destruction. The desperate crew of the orbital carrier prepare to defend
our planet with the only weapon they have: the F177s, the untested
prototypes of the first sub-orbital fighter. The fate of humanity rests
upon the squadron of test pilots, our only hope for defeating the alien
invaders.

The player is a pilot in the Omaha's test squadron, an untried rookie who's
never flown a single mission in the F177s. And there's no time to learn!
The aliens are landing in New York, Moscow, London, and other cities
around the world, and only the crew of the Omaha can stop them! The player
blasts off into battle against waves of alien assault craft in a
relentless fight for the survival of the human race. The mission is to fly
against swarms of alien fighters, outmaneuver the alien ground forces, and
take on the alien motherships in deadly aerial combat.

Shock Wave presents a major technology advance in flight simulations. It
combines cinematic motion-video scenes of real actors, 24 bit
three-dimensional rendered sets, and high quality digitized sound to
create a stunning showcase for this science fiction interactive movie. In
the F177 cockpit, real video images of other pilots appear as the fighter
flies through the texture-mapped landscapes created with photographic
images and real-world terrain data.

"You've never seen anything like this," says Steve Crane, EA's Director of
3DO Development. 'We're combining real video, three-dimensional images,
and realistic terrain to create an unbelievable gaming experience. This is
the first in a new line of science fiction games, and it's right on the
cutting edge of the new 3DO technology."
