Intex Solutions Responds to Clinton Tax Increase

1993 Version of Tax Solver Helps Users Find Ways to Save Taxes

"Headstart" Version Slated to Ship in October

September 10, 1993 -- Needham, MA. -- With significant changes to the tax
code recently enacted by Congress and the Clinton Administration,
individual, business and professional tax preparers are scrambling to see
how their taxes will be affected. Intex Solutions' Tax Solver is the first
program that permits users to easily examine the effect of any tax-saving
strategy within a DOS or Windows spreadsheet. First introduced last year,
Tax Solver utilizes the flexible "what-if' capabilities of Lotus 1-2-3 and
Microsoft Excel to give users the unlimited ability to explore ways to
save taxes. And because Tax Solver prepares a complete tax return from
calculation of tax liability to the printing of IRS-approved tax forms,
the need for tedious manual tax preparation is eliminated. The 1993
"Headstart" version of Tax Solver, which allows users to plan ahead and
get a jump on their tax return, will ship in October at a special 25 %
reduction in price; the "Final" version of Tax Solver will ship in
January, 1994.

Created Especially for Spreadsheets Users

Tax Solver, created specifically for Lotus 1-2-3 and Microsoft Excel users,
is the first tax preparation program to take full advantage of the latest
DOS and Windows spreadsheet technologies, including file linking, graphics
and "what-if" capabilities. The program provides spreadsheet users with
the most comprehensive selection of tax forms available in any program.
These 147 forms and schedules are IRS-approved and ready-to-use, with all
formulas and links in place.

To use Tax Solver, users simply enter financial data once into the program,
and Tax Solver automatically copies and calculates entries to all
dependent forms, saving time and ensuring accuracy.

According to Marjorie Bose, Product Manager at Intex Solutions, "Tax Solver
is the perfect solution for spreadsheet users who want a fast, easy and
accurate way to calculate their taxes, but don't want to learn a
complicated stand-alone tax package. If they know how to use a
spreadsheet, they already know how to use Tax Solver. And with Tax Solver,
users can customize their tax calculations and take advantage of their
spreadsheet's powerful "what-if" capabilities to find ways to reduce their
taxes."

Linked Worksheets for Speed and Accuracy

Because the worksheets in Tax Solver are linked, users need only enter tax
information once; Tax Solver automatically transfers the entries from one
tax form to another. This saves users time and also virtually eliminates
errors in transferring values.

Built-in formulas handle all arithmetic and tax calculations, within a form
and between forms. For example, the total capital gains computed on
Schedule D is automatically carried forward to the 1040 form.

Test Any Tax Saving Scenario

Perhaps the biggest benefit of Tax Solver is that, as a spreadsheet add-on,
Tax Solver allows users to easily test the tax advantages of various
scenarios. Using the extensive "what-if" capabilities built into 1-2-3 and
Excel, users simply change the values of any spreadsheet cell, and Tax
Solver will instantly recompute their tax liability. For example, with a
single entry, a couple can see whether filing "jointly" or "separately" is
to their best advantage. In addition, if a user's calculation needs to be
customized to suit a particular tax situation, Tax Solver makes it easy to
simply edit that worksheet cell.

1993 "Headstart" Special

Now through December 31, 1993, Intex is offering a Headstart Special on its
Individual, Business and Professional versions of Tax Solver. All three
versions are priced at 25% off the original list price. The 1040
Individual module, which consists of 102 forms, lists for $79.95 and is
available for $59. The Business module, which features four different form
categories, 1041 Fiduciary (67 forms), 1065 Partnership (52 forms), 1120
Corporate (61 forms) and 1120S S-Corporate (56 forms), lists for $129.95
and is available for $99. (The terms of the license agreement allow
business users to choose and use one of these categories.) The
Professional module, which includes all 147 forms, lists for $495 and is
available for $369. In addition, state tax forms for Massachusetts,
California and New York will be available in January for $39.95. There is
