Tektronix Endorses NI-VXI Standardized VXIbus Interface From National
Instruments

August 1, 1993 -- Austin, TX -- As part of an alliance formed between
National Instruments and Tektronix, Inc. to develop, market and sell a new
line of integrated test and measurement systems, Tektronix today announced
its endorsement of the National Instruments standardized VXIbus interface
software, NI-VXI.

Tektronix and National Instruments have also committed to developing an
evolving open software standard that will function as a superset of the
NI-VXI software. As an extension of the Open Measurement Solutions (OMS)
alliance and future Systems Integration Services and products, both
companies will help develop this standard as an open industry standard.

VXI Software Compatibility

This endorsement of the NI-VXI standard will establish software
compatibility across controllers from different vendors protecting the
software investment for both users and vendors. Currently NI-VXI
compatibility extends across 30 platforms including embedded and
MXI-equipped computers.

Tektronix plans to use NI-VXI in its future VXI embedded controller
products to give Tektronix VXI users increased VXI functionality and
compatibility with the National Instruments line of embedded computers and
high-speed MXIbus products. A major factor in this strategy is the depth
of the NI-VXI software.

NI-VXI: Software for VXIbus Systems

NI-VXI is the basis for Resource Manager software, interactive VXI Resource
Editors, tools for interacting with and debugging the backplane and
devices, and comprehensive libraries of software routines for programming
VXI.

In addition to supporting the National Instruments MXI and embedded
controllers, all programs developed using this software standard will be
source-code compatible with many other VXI controller platforms. These
platforms include the VXIpc-486 family of embedded controllers from
National Instruments and a range of MXI-equipped computers running a
variety of operating systems including DOS, Windows, Windows NT, Macintosh
OS, OS/2, SunOS, Solaris, ISC 386/ix, AIX, ULTRIX, SCO UNIX, AT&T UNIX,
VxWorks and LynxOS.

OMS: A Strategic Alliance

OMS represents a strategic alliance formed in September 1992 between
National Instruments Corporation, Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation
and Tektronix, Inc. to develop, market and sell a new line of integrated
test and measurement systems based on industry-standard products. By
joining forces, the partners offer customers the most comprehensive, yet
open and flexible, test and measurement solutions in the industry. Unlike
products from other vendors, these systems can be linked easily to
equipment from other companies to ensure users will not be locked into
single-vendor solutions and that systems can be easily expanded to meet
future needs.
