SILICON GRAPHICS BUNDLES Z-CODE'S MULTIMEDIA ELECTRONIC MAIL

San Rafael, California, September 27, 1993 -- Z-Code Software today
announced a licensing agreement with Silicon Graphics, Inc. that enables
Silicon Graphics to bundle Z-Code Software's Z-Mail with IRIX, Silicon
Graphics' enhanced version of the UNIX operating system. The agreement
allows Silicon Graphics to be the first computer vendor to provide a
full-featured multimedia-based electronic mail system from Z-Code for its
customers.

All Silicon Graphics' computer systems will include a single-user license
of Z-Mail under the brand name MediaMail. The package will be available in
four languages: English, Japanese, French and German.

The agreement coincides with two other recent announcements: Z-Mail 3.0
from Z-Code, and Silicon Graphics's release of the Indy desktop system.
The Indy is available at prices starting under $5,000 and includes a host
of digital media capabilities, such as digital color video camera and
built-in DAT-quality audio, integrated with the new Indigo Magic iconic
digital media user environment.

MediaMail will be rolled out in two phases. The first release will be
Z-Code's newly announced 3.0 version of Z-Mail packaged under the name
"MediaMail". This will be the first commercial incarnation of Z-Mail 3.0
from Z-Code, which will be available on all other UNIX platforms, as well
as the Macintosh and PCs using Microsoft Windows throughout 1993 and 1994.
The second phase of MediaMail will be fully integrated with the Indigo
Magic user environment, which enables all types of users to easily
manipulate speech, music, video and graphics. MediaMail will enhance the
desktop environment by allowing users to exchange multimedia documents
with other computers on the network.

"Giving users true digital media capabilities requires not only integrated
hardware features such as audio and video but also software applications
that can take advantage of those features," said Way Ting, Vice President
and general manager of Silicon Graphics' Visual Magic Division. "Bundled
tools such as MediaMail enable our users to immediately and easily tap
into the full power of our workstations."

Dan Heller, President of Z-Code Software adds, "This is the first open
systems environment to make practical use of digital media technology.
Business, education, and other industries now have the ability to make
productive use of multimedia, not just have fun with it. You can't have
networks of computers without following standards. An open systems
approach is the only feasible choice when it comes to enterprise-wide
messaging, especially when more than one type of computer is involved."

One of the most significant technical aspects of Z-Mail 3.0 is that it is
using the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) standard to provide
all of its multimedia and document attachment capabilities to the network.
"This is a major statement in the e-mail technology world, because there
has been a large movement towards MIME and other Internet standards,
including SMTP and TCP/IP," says Paul Rarey, Manager of Planning and
Global Telecommunications at DHL.

MediaMail provides all of the same features on which Z-Code has built its
reputation, including a highly intuitive, fully configurable user
interface, the most powerful rule-based e-mail engine available, a
completely open directory service access method, and a fully extensible
scripting language called Z-Script. The language allows end-users to
mail-enable applications by writing scripts that communicate with other
applications. Users can also create filters, functions, macros or other
user-defined commands. By using speech recognition and synthesis also on
Silicon Graphics workstations in early 1994, users will be able to enhance
their e-mail productivity by incorporating voice commands directly into
MediaMail. "With the right hardware configuration, users could even call
computers and browse their e-mail," comments Hartford Field of Scott
Instruments, technology providers for the speech recognition software for
Silicon Graphics.

Z-Code Software is a leading cross-platform mail provider for the
open-systems environment. Software designed by Z-Code is portable and
conforms with industry standards. The open solutions approach permits
Z-Code's products to integrate cleanly with most non-proprietary
environments and with other third-party applications. Z-Code, founded in
1990, is located in San Rafael, California.

Silicon Graphics, Inc. is the leading manufacturer of high-performance
