ALDUS FORMS DEVELOPERS COOPERATIVE

SEATTLE, October 11, 1993--Aldus Corporation today announced the formation
of the Aldus Developers Cooperative, an independent, member-owned,
not-for-profit organization. The company created the association for
developers of Aldus Additions and other Aldus products designed to
interact specifically with Aldus PageMaker. To date, seventeen developers
have indicated their intent to join the group.

A separate entity from Aldus, the Co-op supplies developers with an
effective marketing, sales and distribution channel into the Aldus
customer base. Although Aldus does not employ Co-op staff, it serves in an
advisory role, underwrites the start-up debt, and provides managed access
to a database of the more than one million Aldus PageMaker customers
worldwide.

"We believe in strength in numbers," said Karen Howe, Aldus senior product
marketing manager. "Aldus established the Co-op as an incentive for
third-party companies to pool their resources and develop add-on products
to the Aldus line. The Co-op also expands and streamlines their efforts to
reach Aldus product users. It's really a win-win situation for the
developers and Aldus."

The Co-op differs from a regular business because members control it and
each member holds one vote. Member equity funds the association along with
a bank loan guaranteed by Aldus. To fund member services, the Co-op
retains 40 percent of the revenues from product orders it fulfills, the
other 60 percent goes to the developer.

Members pay annual fees and select from two categories of annual
membership. Developers who desire product fulfillment through the Co-op
pay $3,000; those who choose not to have the Co-op fulfill orders pay
$5,000. The latter plan costs more since the Co-op does not retain a
percentage of the revenues.

In return, Co-op members can advertise at low-cost in Aldus catalogs and
Aldus Magazine. They also receive order entry and product fulfillment,
database development and management, international promotion, a toll-free
number for customer inquiries, and opportunities to participate in Aldus
trade show exhibits.

Aldus Additions add-on modules automate routine and repetitive PageMaker
tasks or enable users to customize PageMaker for their specialized
publishing requirements. Three types of Aldus Additions exist: Additions
as scripts, for PageMaker users to automate specific PageMaker tasks;
loadable Additions, which are written in the C programming language to
write modules that perform more complex tasks than scripts; and standalone
Additions, which rely on application-to-application communications.

Eligible third-party developers should contact Karen Howe, Aldus senior
product marketing manager, at (206) 628-2354.
