High-Performance Data Acquisition Board Now Features Rugged 68-Pin
Connector

New Cables Shield Signals from Noise and Electrostatic Discharge

October 12, 1993 -- Austin, TX - National Instruments announced today a new
68-pin, shielded connector version of its AT-MI0-16X high-performance,
high-resolution, multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) board. The company
is also announcing the SCXI-1347 and SH6850 - shielded cable assemblies
that connect the AT-MI0-16X to SCXI systems or other signal conditioning
accessories. Engineers and scientists can use the AT-MI0-16X and cable
assemblies to build PC-based DAQ systems for laboratory automation,
process monitoring and control, automotive and aerospace engineering, and
electronic test applications.

About the 68-Pin AT-MIO-16X

The AT-MI0-16X is a high-resolution analog, digital, and timing I/O board
for PC AT and compatible computers. It has a 16-bit sampling ADC with 16
analog inputs you can configure as single-ended, pseudo-differential, or
fully differential inputs. The AT-MI0-16X features sustained analog
sampling rates up to 100 kS/s. The AT-MI0-16X uses the NI-PGIA', the
company's instrumentation amplifier designed specifically for data
acquisition applications so that the board can settle to high accuracies
at the full 100 kS/s sampling rate at all gains when scanning multiple
channels. The board's two independent double-buffered, multiplying 16-bit
DACs are connected to two voltage output channels. The board is
self-calibrating and fully software configurable - the input and output
range and polarity, input gain, and input mode (differential or
single-ended) are fully software selectable on a per-channel basis. The
AT-MI0-16X also has the Real-Time System Integration (RTSI) bus, a custom
chip, and ribbon cable used to synchronize inputs and outputs on multiple
DAQ boards. The AT-MI0-16X also features eight lines of TTL-compatible
digital I/O and three 16-bit counter/timer channels. The 68-pin version
features a sturdy trapezoidal metal connector that protects the pins and
prevents the cable from being installed incorrectly.

About the SCXI-1347

The SCXI-1347 is a low-noise shielded cable assembly - available in lengths
of l, 2, 5, and 10 m - that connects the 68-pin AT-MI0-16X board to an
SCXI chassis. The assembly includes a cable that is fully shielded against
electrostatic discharge and external noise and a terminal block that
converts one end of the 68-pin cable to a 50-pin connector. The cable also
features quick-release locks so the cable will not accidentally disconnect
from the plug-in board or SCXI chassis. System developers can use the
short cables in environments with intense electrical noise, and the long
cables when it is necessary to locate the SCXI chassis close to sensors in
environments in which it is impractical or hazardous to locate the PC.
Thus, the PC can be separated by up to 10 m (perhaps in another room) from
the SCXI chassis without fear of noise interference.

About the SH6850

The SH6850 is a shielded cable assembly - available in lengths of 1, 2, 5,
and 10 m - that connects the 68-pin AT-MI0-16X with a wide range of 50-pin
low-cost signal conditioning and termination accessories. It features a
68-pin trapezoidal locking connector on one end and a 50-pin ribbon cable
assembly on the other. The cable is fully shielded against electrostatic
discharge and external noise.

Software for the AT-MIO-16X

Software for the AT-MI0-16X includes NI-DAQ, the company's library of DAQ
functions for DOS, Windows, and Windows NT applications; and DAQWare, a
ready-to-run software system containing analog, digital, and counter/timer
I/O routines. The AT-MI0-16X is compatible with the company's LabVIEW
graphical application software for instrumentation, LabWindows for DOS,
and the new LabWindows/CVI for Windows automatic code-generating software
for ANSI C programmers.

Pricing and Availability

The 68-pin version of the AT-MI0-16X will be available in October for
$1,995, the SCXI-1347 will be available in October with the price ranging
from $150 to, $275, and the SH6850 will be available in October with the
