New PCMCIA Card Give Users Portable Data Acquisition
Low-Power Card Ideal for Use In Battery-Powered Laptop PCs

October 12, 1993 -- Austin, TX - National Instruments announced today a
low-power, low-cost multifunction I/O card for computers with a PCMCIA
slot. The DAQCard-700 is a Type II PCMCIA card that can be used in many
environments for instrumentation, machine automation, process monitoring
and control, and electronic test functions.

The DAQCard-700 has a 12-bit ADC with 16 single-ended or eight differential
analog inputs, an 80 kS/s sustained sampling rate, a 16-sample FIFO ADC
buffer, multiple-channel scanning, and +/- 45V overvoltage protection with
power on or off. Users can configure the voltage input range to +/- 10V,
+/- 5V, or +/- 2.5V with an analog signal resolution of 4.88 mV in the +/-
10V range. The card also features 16 lines of transistor-transistor logic
(TTL)-compatible digital I/O configured as eight-bit input and output
ports and two user-available, 16-bit counter/timer channels. All functions
of the card are software configurable. The PCMCIA bus interface has 16-bit
data paths with interrupt generation circuitry. The DAQCard-700 uses very
little power so it can operate in battery-powered PCs.

Software for the DAQCard-700 includes NI-DAQ, the company's library of data
acquisition functions for DOS, Windows, and Windows NT applications; and
DAQWare, a ready-to-run software system containing analog, digital, and
counter/timer I/O routines. The DAQCard-700 also includes socket services
so that users do not have to pay more for the PCMCIA interface software.
The DAQCard-700 is compatible with the company's LabVIEW graphical
application software for instrumentation, LabWindows for DOS, and the new
LabWindows/CVI for Windows, the automatic code-generating software for
ANSI C programmers.

Pricing and Availability

The DAQCard-700 will be available in January 1994 for $695. For more
