NSSI INTRODUCES ETHERNET-READY PROCESSOR FOR INTERNET POWER MANAGEMENT

EmPower Link Delivers Computing and Communications Capabilities to
Non-intelligent Devices

SPECIAL TO NETWORLD, October 5, 1993 - Network Security Systems Inc.,
(NSSI), a recognized leader in network and standalone power management
solutions, today introduced EmPower Link, an ethernet-ready processor that
provides non-intelligent hubs, routers and bridges with computing and
communications capabilities. Designed to provide a platform for future
applications, EmPower Link will first be offered as a power monitoring
software application for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and LanSafe II
network power management. Available now, EmPower Link is priced at $599.

EmPower Link acts as the interface between the UPS and the protected
network device, enabling system administrators to manage any network
device, intelligent or not, with an attached UPS from a single console. In
essence, EmPower Link acts as a CPU for "dumb" devices, providing a
communications link between the LanSafe II console and the UPS used to
protect the hub. This allows NSST's LanSafe II software to perform power
management tasks (e.g. real-time UPS configuration changes) as if the hub,
bridge or router were a file server or workstation.

"This is a revolutionary approach to network power management," said
Stephen Nye, vice president of sales and marketing for NSSI.
"Communication devices, intelligent or not, are active links in
transmitting data across the network. If they're not protected, you're
putting yourself at risk for lost or corrupted data With EmPower Link you
can ensure that data transmissions throughout local and wide area networks
are complete."

EmPower Link supports up to two UPSs through two 9600 baud, RS-232
communication ports. An ethernet LAN attachment is available for both
10BaseT (unshielded twisted pair) or 10Base2 (thinnet).

NSSI's power management system is comprised of a family of intelligent UPSs
and LanSafe II network power management software. Operating systems
supported include Novell NetWare and NMS, UNIX, MS/DOS, Microsoft Windows,
OS/2, LAN Manager, LAN Server, Banyan and 3Com. NSSI's products are
available through many leading value-added resellers and distributors
including Ingram Micro, Tech Data and Vitek. For additional product
