Gupta Provides Users with Smooth Integration of SQLWindows with Leading
CASE Products

Signs agreements with six major CASE vendors allowing developers to
integrate application analysis and design functionality with SQLWindows

San Francisco, Calif., August 30, 1993--Gupta Corporation (NASDAQ: GPTA)
announced here today at its Developers Conference a series of partner
agreements that provide tight integration of commonly used UPPER CASE
tools with Gupta SQLWindows. The agreements dovetail with Gupta's focus on
enterprise application development and deployment on PCs.

Initially, SQLWindows will be integrated with CASE analysis and design
products from Bachman Information Systems, Intersolv. LBMS, Logic Works,
Popkin Software and Visible Systems via links between Gupta's open
repository and the respective repositories used by the participating
partners.

By smoothly integrating SQLWindows with UPPER CASE technology Gupta gives
developers a simple and unified way to manage high level application
analysis and design of enterprise client/server applications. Developers
benefit from integrating SQLWindows with CASE because they can now easily
update SQLWindows applications from changes made in the CASE database.

Gupta will continue to actively pursue alliances with other CASE providers
giving customers many options for applying the application analysis and
design methodologies offered by CASE products to the SQLWindows system.

Gupta's announcement today of its SQLWindows/CASE partnerships is integral
to Gupta's Tools Integration for the Enterprise (TIE) strategy which
defines the means by which Gupta is making its tools valuable and
applicable in a mixed computing environment. TIE defines the links
available to ISVs for integrating SQLWindows into mixed computing
development environments.

Background and Overview

The SQLWindows 4.0 Corporate Edition already includes the following
modules: Gupta Open Repository, SQLWindows Designer, Report Windows, Quest
and TeamWindows. Together, these modules provide IS management and
application developers with most of the key technologies needed for
building PC-based enterprise-wide client/server applications. Such
applications typically require application generation, 4GL coding and
testing, project management, source code control and a template building
language.

With the integrated facilities provided by SQLWindows 4.0 customers already
have most of the life cycle technology they need to build enterprise-wide
client/server applications except for the application analysis and design
features provided by UPPER CASE technology. The TeamWindows component of
SQLWindows is essentially a LOWER CASE feature set providing users with a
robust data repository, reusable screen templates, check-in and check-out
facilities, security, project management and source-code and version
control.

Since TeamWindows provides the LOWER CASE technology, only the upper CASE
component essential to enterprise development is needed. Filling just the
upper CASE gap will be less complex and expensive than making up for a
total absence of CASE functionality.

Developers attempting to combine other vendors' client/server application
development products with CASE tools must acquire much more extensive CASE
technology because their client/server tools lack any equivalent to the
Gupta TeamWindows component of SQLWindows.

Umang P. Gupta, president and CEO of Gupta Corporation said, "This is an
important moment for SQLWindows. With the announcement of these CASE
alliances we are providing a solution for customers that fundamentally
completes the application development life cycle. SQLWindows 4.0 has been
targeted from the very beginning for the enterprise customer. Fundamental
to SQLWindows 4.0 is the Gupta open repository which allows us this
upscale move into the enterprise. By connecting the Gupta open repository
to the repositories of leading CASE products we are broadening the scope
of SQLWindows by appealing to mainframe-class customers interested in
moving to PC client-server environments."

Gupta continued, "Bachman, Intersolv, LBMS, Logic Works, Popkin and Visible
Systems are some of the premier CASE vendors in the PC market today. By
allying ourselves with these companies and building technical paths
between their products and ours, we are able to bring a new capability to
all developers building client-server applications for the enterprise."

Availability

The first repository links are currently in beta and are expected to become
available by the end of the year coinciding with a new release of
SQLWindows version 4.1. Support for all the vendors' CASE tools will
follow as the integration efforts are completed.

Agreements with CASE Vendors

Gupta has signed agreements with six leading CASE vendors to ensure the
development of interfaces between their products and SQLWindows. The
agreements call for Logic Works and Visible Systems to accomplish most of
the development work required to develop links to their products. In the
remaining cases the agreements call for Gupta to accomplish the bulk of
the development work. The companies Gupta has signed agreements with and
the respective product names are:

* Bachman Information Systems: Bachman Analyst
* Intersolv: Excelerator II analysis and design software
* LBMS: SystemEngineer
* Logic Works: ERWin entity-relationship (ER) modeling tool
  for Windows
* Popkin Software & Systems: System Architect,
a PC-based CASE tool for the Windows environment.
* Visible Systems: Visible Analyst Workbench supports the entire
software development life cycle including: planning, analysis,
design, construction, maintenance and reverse engineering.

About Gupta SQLWindows 4.0
