SHARP SHIPS THE AFFORDABLE JX-9400 LASER PRINTER

MAHWAH, N.J., October 13, 1993 -- Sharp Electronics Corporation has begun
shipping the JX-9400, a new low-cost laser printer with a suggested retail
price of only $699. Designed to meet the demanding needs of small
businesses and home offices, the JX-9400 offers a productive
six-pages-per-minute printing speed, reduced noise levels, a low operating
cost of two cents per page plus a space-saving design.

With its low price, the value-packed JX-9400 is targeted toward consumers
previously unable to afford a laser printer and who are now ready to
upgrade from an inkjet or dot matrix printer.

Based on-Sharp's own laser printer engine, the JX-9400 provides
high-quality 300 dots-per-inch (DPI) output. Whether users require
outstandingly crisp text or detailed graphic output, they will find the
JX-9400 well suited as a personal printer With a footprint of only 1.3
square feet, the JX-9400 conserves precious office space.

Other features include:

* a selectable idle mode for noise reduction;
* paper input and output trays, each with 250-sheet capacities;
* a low cost-per-copy of approximately two cents;
* a supply yield of up to 5,000 pages with original consumables;
* a supply yield of up to 15,000 pages for replacement
  consumables.
* an automatic warning to alert users to low supplies;

Idle Mode Technology

This new laser printer is equipped with three modes of operation: printing,
standby and an idle mode. During idle periods, the JX-9400 allows the home
office or small business user to work in a noise-free environment.

Paper Handling: 

The JX-9400 handles letter- and legal-size sheets as well as envelopes. It
ships with an internal, front-loading 250-sheet letter-size cassette and
has an output capacity of 250 sheets. Space-saving optional cassettes,
designed to fit flush against the exterior of the printer, accommodate
additional paper sizes and envelopes.

Compatibility: 

The JX-9400 laser printer is equipped with PCL4. The standard configuration
also includes IBM ProPrinter, IBM Graphics Printer, Epson FX-80 dot matrix
and the Diablo 630 daisywheel printer emulations, providing the
flexibility to print from a wide variety of current and out-of-date
software applications. A parallel interface comes standard with the unit.
