STB INTRODUCES 24-BIT PCI GRAPHICS ACCELERATOR

Pegasus PCI to offer 16.7 million colors at 1024x768, 80 Hz refresh rate

Richardson, Texas - STB Systems, Inc. has announced the release of the
Pegasus PCI graphics accelerator card. The Pegasus PCI is a PCI Local Bus
compatible graphics accelerator that is capable of displaying 16.7 million
colors at resolutions of 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768.

Based on the S3 86C928 video controller, the product will come in two
standard configurations. The base configuration will be configured with 4
MG of VRAM and will support resolutions up to 1024x768 at 16.7 million
colors and up to 256 colors at 1600x1200 (non-interlaced). The product
will also be offered in a 2 MG configuration providing 65 thousand colors
at 640x480 through 1024x768 resolutions and a maximum of 256 colors at
1280x1024 resolution. Refresh rates supported are 60, 72, 76 Hz and 80
Hz.

To simplify installation and provide easy access to configuration menus,
the Pegasus PCI comes with a Winstall utility that makes it possible to
change monitor resolution and color settings from a windows menu accessed
by double clicking on an icon. The product will also include a PowerStar
power management utility that will allow a user reduce their monitor's
power usage after a specified time period. This utility works with
monitors that support the new VESA specification for power reduction.

The Pegasus PCI will come standard with a BNC-style RGB connector and VGA
15-pin D-sub connector. The RGB connector transmits high integrity video
signals and offers compatibility with high-end desktop publishing
monitors. Both connectors will support variable and fixed frequency
monitors.

The product will include drivers to support applications for Microsoft
Windows 3.x and Windows NT, IBM's CS/2, SCO Open Desktop, Uniware,
X-Windows, as well as major CAD/CAM platforms.

Pegasus PCI was available in limited quantities in August and was scheduled
to begin full production in September.

The powerful features and capabilities of the Pegasus PCI position this
board against high-end boards based on the ISA-based TI 34020 co-processor
(if they had a PCI version), which cost well over $2,000. The suggested
retail price for the Pegasus PCI (PCI Local Bus) version is $799 for the
2MB version and $999 for the 4 MB version.

The Pegasus PCI offers users a higher level of performance than standard 1
and 2 MG DRAM graphics accelerators. "The Pegasus PCI provides the right
combination of performance, color depth and open systems compatibility for
users who expect more than hyped up Winmark scores from tests performed in
256 color modes", said Gary Kellar, Product Manager. Kellar defines the
Pegasus PCI, "...as a board designed for power users who need maximum
performance while working with 24-bit images at high resolutions".
