POWERFUL, NEW COLOR NOTEBOOK COMPUTER FAMILY DEBUTED BY SHARP

MAHWAH, N.J., October 26, 1993 -- Two new notebook computers boasting Intel
486 DX processors and high-performance color LCD screens are introduced
today by Sharp Electronics Corporation. The new notebook computers take
advantage of Sharp's expertise as the world leader in developing LCD
products by incorporating a separate color-screen technology into each
affordable model.

The PC-8650 offers an 8.4-inch active matrix TFT (thin film transistor)
color VGA screen while the PC-8150 comes with a 9.4-inch passive matrix,
dual scan monitor. Both the PC-8650 and PC-8150, each weighing 6.4 pounds,
feature processors running at 33 MHz, PCMCIA type 2 card slots, 200 MB
fast-access hard drives, a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive, 4 MB of RAM and
sophisticated power management software. The units also come pre-installed
with MS-DOS version 6.0 and Windows" version 3.1.

To increase user comfort and maximize portable productivity, both units
offer full-size 85-key keyboards with 12 function keys. An optional,
external trackball is available.

"Sharp is keenly aware of the increased demand for affordable color
notebook computers and we are committed to providing top-of-the-line
technologies in all our new color models," notes Rob Rosborough, director,
Sharp PC and Color Imaging Systems Division. "The PC-8660 and PC-8150
offer outstanding color screens, powerful Intel processors and
pre-installed software, making them two of the best values available on
the notebook market today."

Both units' screens are non-glare, backlit, have resolutions of 640 x 480
pixels and support 256 colors which can be displayed simultaneously from a
palette of 256,000. The PC-8150's supertwist nematic, dual scan design
increases the screen's refresh rate and makes it more responsive to even
the slightest display changes than non-dual-scan color screens.

The versatile PC Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) type 2 card
slot enables users to easily increase system memory via RAM or ROM cards,
load software programs and attach input/output devices. A separate
fax/modem slot is also built-in for the convenient transmission of
documents and data.

Users can increase system memory up to 8 MB or 20 MB with the insertion of
optional RAM boards, configuring either unit to handle even the most
advanced, memory-intensive software applications.

Standard interfaces include an RS-232C serial port, a Centronics parallel
port, a CRT monitor interface, an expansion bus and external
keyboard/mouse and trackball ports.

Options include an external trackball (suggested retail price, $89), an
internal, send/receive 14.4 fax/modem card ($425) and an extra NiMH
battery pack ($175).

Sharp LCD Technology

Liquid crystal display (LCD) technology has become the heart of many home
and office products and is instrumental in realizing functions and
features never before offered. Since developing the world's first
electronic calculator with an LCD in 1973, Sharp has continually improved
the technology to provide a higher contrast, wider viewing angle and
larger image. LCDs accounted for a large portion of Sharp's $2 million per
day worldwide research and development investment.

Both models measure 8.86" (D) x 11.42" (W) x 1.81" (H). The PC-8650 is now
available and has a suggested retail price of $3,699. The PC-8150 will be
available by the end of October and have a suggested retail price of
$3,199.
