ARTISOFT ANNOUNCES NEW SIMPLY LANTASTIC NETWORK FOR SMALL BUSINESSES & HOME
OFFICES

Offers Easy Installation, Basic Peer-To-Peer Networking Features At Low
Cost

(TUCSON, AZ - October 18, 1993) - Artisoft, Inc. announced today that it is
introducing an entry-level network operating system designed to meet the
basic networking requirements for small businesses and home offices. The
Simply LANtastic network operating system provides basic file-, printer-
and CD-ROM-sharing features and is specially designed for easy
installation and use. The Simply LANtastic network operating system is
scheduled to begin shipping by early December, and will be available in
software-only kits as well as two hardware bundles, with pricing starting
at $79 per node.

"The Simply LANtastic network is the ideal, low-cost solution to fulfill
basic networking requirements for users whose primary concern is ease of
use," commented Dave Hallmen, Artisoft's Vice President of Sales &
Marketing. "This intuitive network is based on the reliability and
functionality of the award-winning core LANtastic network and can easily
be integrated into a LANtastic v5.0 network."

Simply LANtastic Bundles

Artisoft is offering the Simply LANtastic network in software-only kits, as
well as two separate hardware bundles with new internal and external
adapters. The first hardware bundle is priced at $149 and combines one
node of the Simply LANtastic network software with a new internal adapter
and two different lengths of cabling. This 10Mbps, Ethernet-compatible,
self-terminating adapter is specially designed to reduce the complexity of
network installation and operation. It also features plug-and-play cabling
by using a standard RCA connection for easy network installation. This
software-configurable adapter is based on the ALICE controller, which is
also used in Artisoft's line of NodeRunner and NodeRunner/Sr adapters.

Artisoft will also be offering a second bundle with the Simply LANtastic
network software and a new external adapter. This 10Mbps adapter will plug
into a PC's parallel port and includes an RCA connector, which will allow
users immediate, one-step installation. Pricing and availability of this
bundle will be announced at a future date.

Easy Installation

Users can get their Simply LANtastic network up and running in minutes for
either a DOS or Windows environment with a single integrated install
program. The Simply LANtastic network is compatible with a wide range of
technologies, from the older, low-memory 8088 PCs, all the way up to newer
486 and Pentium technology. This flexibility enables users to save money
by taking full advantage of their existing as well as newer network PCs.

Intuitive User Interface

The easy-to-understand menu interface is specially designed for the novice
network user to reduce much of the complexity associated with
configuration options during installation and day-to-day management. A
single menu program provides all control functions - including sharing or
accessing network drive and printer connections, print job display and
control, and EMail. Pop-up screens and help files lead novice users
through the process of network resource connections with non-technical
descriptions.

Integration With The LANtastic v5.0 Network

Users whose connectivity needs grow beyond the basic networking features of
the Simply LANtastic network can easily integrate with Artisoft's core
LANtastic v5.0 network for increased performance and security. This
integration provides greater connectivity to additional resources and
operating systems. For example, a Simply LANtastic workstation that is
connected to a LANtastic v5.0 server can access available resources on the
LANtastic v5.0 network including non-DOS environments such as Novell
NetWare.

This integration can also be very useful for users who want to begin to
upgrade their Simply LANtastic software to the greater flexibility,
security and performance capabilities of the LANtastic v5.0 software
without having to learn an entirely new networking system or purchase new
networking hardware or resources.

Resource Sharing

Simply LANtastic network users will be able to share printers, files,
programs, hard disks and CD-ROM drives across the network as well as
communicate with other users using the network's electronic mail feature.
Simply LANtastic network users can choose to share an entire drive or a
specific subdirectory and can also assign three levels of access - full
access, read-only access and no access - using Access Control Lists
(ACLs). Users can also group multiple machine names into Wildcard accounts
within the ACLs.

Artisoft develops and manufactures a full line of innovative,
cost-effective network communication solutions including the award-winning
LANtastic Local Area Network. Recognized as the leader in peer-to-peer
networking for DOS and Windows environments, the LANtastic network also
offers multiplatform connectivity solutions for NetWare, TCP/IP and
Macintosh systems. It allows up to 500 users on one network to connect and
share information and peripheral devices such as printers, hard drives and
CD-ROMs. Artisoft maintains nine international offices and distributes the
LANtastic network and its other connectivity products in over 70 countries
worldwide.
