Software Co-op National Product Referral
...Bob Ostrander

It seems like I get a call every week from somebody looking for software to
bundle with hardware, magazines, or other software; for software that can
be given away as sales incentives; software that can be sold via retail
channels; software that can make both the seller and the author a profit.

Why do they call me? Probably because of my 8 years in the industry.
Through Public Brand Software, the Association of Shareware Professionals,
the Summer Shareware Seminars, and Ziff Communications it seems that I've
met a lot of people in the computer business.

NPR will organize the referrals that get made this way; maintain a file of
interested people and act as matchmaker. Further, NPR will be a
profit-making business that will be here long-term. We'll go out looking
for business opportunities.

NPR, in effect, acts as a non-exclusive agent for shareware authors. NPR
finds new marketing opportunities both within and outside normal shareware
channels.

NPR is not a Public Relations agency. Instead it functions by teaming up
businesses - finding new ways for its clients to sell software.

NPR does not promote sales directly to the end user. Instead it locates
sales, marketing, and advertising opportunities for its clients.

NPR endeavors to find opportunities for its clients like:

* Retail publishing contracts.
* Bundling contracts.
* Free or low-cost mass distribution opportunities.
* Cross licensing and sales agreements with other shareware
  authors.
* Flyer and/or evaluation copy cross distribution agreements.
* Overseas and/or market territorial agents.
* Suggestions for improved registration incentives and better
use of traditional shareware marketing channels.

And maybe occasionally:

* Magazine and newspaper article references.
* Site licenses.

There are no contracts between NPR and its clients. All payments to NPR are
made on a shareware basis. If the client is satisfied with the service a
fee is due only after the income is realized from NPR's efforts. We'll
trust you - we're a shareware author also. Besides, if we produce results
for you once you will want us to do so again.

For instance, if we find a publisher and a contract to sell your software
on retail shelves we may ask for a percentage of your royalty payments as
they come in. No contracts, just a verbal understanding. A fee of from 4%
to 10% of the extra income you realize from the arrangement will keep NPR
working for you.

There are, of course, no guarantees that NPR can perform for any individual
author. All we can do is try. Authors risk nothing by teaming up with NPR.
They are under no obligation to carry through on any opportunity NPR
finds.

Authors can join the NPR family by simply filling out the application form
attached and sending it along with 2 copies of the program(s),
documentation, brochures, etc.

Are you looking for software? - Can we help?

If you are looking for software to publish, to bundle with your hardware,
to sell or to give away as sales incentives with your products or in your
stores, to write about, or for any other legitimate reason, contact us.
Our clients may well have exactly what you need.

Most of our clients use the shareware marketing system as their primary
advertising and marketing method. This in itself shows their adaptivity.
They are ready to explore other innovative methods with you.

Consider that you normally won't be charged anything forgiving away fully
functional evaluation copies of shareware to your customers. You might
even get a commission on registrations from the author.

And fully functional software can often be given away by you without any
need for your customer to pay any money to the author as is traditional in
shareware marketing. And it doesn't need to cost you an arm and a leg.
There are many excellent methods to solve your problems that NPR can help
set up.
