Giana Family - Readme (V1.2)

Do you remeber the great old game on C64īs times called "Giana-Sisters" ?

Now itīs time to change everything about it !

This version brings to you a new feeling of network-gaming...

It was my first attempt on programming such a game for Windows95, using DirectX. Youīll see that this tiny game will bring you real satisfaction in shooting up enemy players ! Iīve tried to use most of all the "old stuff" - graphics the same as movement and handling.

This game is a thing between shareware and public domain - copy it for free as long as this document is still included in the archive - but donīt change any of the contents please.

Special thanks are going to: Manfred Trenz, Chris Huelsbek and Armin Gessert for their idea and programming on the C64
and to Dennis Kruse, Stephan Wagner, Sven Wagner, Pierre Samoske.

The music (only the low quality version is distributed, because of it's size) has been originally composed by Chris Huelsbeck and rearranged by Jan Friederich.

Hardware reguirements:

- IBM or 100% compatible system with a 586īs CPU or better and at least 16MB of RAM

- A S-VGA graphics adapter

- For network/internet gaming: A LAN-network-card or a modem for IPX or TCP/IP connection (of course this one is neccesary for having the real fun)

Software requirements:

- Windows95 (TM) with a fully installed DirectX 5.0 or better. Get DirectX here: http://www.microsoft.com/directx

The game.
An easy way is, to simply extract the files from the archive into any folder you want and then start the game by calling up "GIANA.EXE".
The following is important:

- choose a screen resolution (there are 4 available: 320x240, 400x300, 512x384 and 640x480 - all at 256 colors)
Recommended resolution is 512x384 pixels, because this is the nearest to the original size. So many different configurations of DirectX and the Hardware are making too much trouble to define a clear resolution - try your own way, which is the best one for you.

If you want to create a new Multiplayer - do it the simple way by clicking the "Create game"-button. According to this you can also click "Join game". For more informations about the game read the giana.htm.

Some features arenīt included in this version - but theyīll follow ASAP. Still there're only a few sounds and player animations in the game, but a level editor is already included.

I think a good way for me, to bring up to you new, better versions is, to contact me and tell me, what your idea or point is. My eM@il-adress is: Andreas_Kahn@public.uni-hamburg.de
