This directory contains 1) a Kaffe (Java) OpenVM that runs on the OSKit, and 2) a tiny toy shell for the resulting "Java OS". The following method is the safest way to get a version of Kaffe OpenVM that boots on the OSKit 0.97: kaffe.tar.gz (2MB) - Kaffe daily snapshot of Jan 6 1999, with the addition of OSKit support from Utah. Make sure you have OSKit 0.97 built and installed. Unpack the kaffe.tar.gz file and follow the directions in the README here (same as config/i386/oskit/README). While the OSKit changes have now been added to the Transvirtual source tree, a number of configuration and build tool changes were commited on Jan 7 1999 that effectively broke the oskit implementation. This will be fixed and checked into the Transvirtual tree very soon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note this restriction: currently the only display support for Kaffe/OSKit kernels is to use the OSKit's xclient support to display on another machine running an X server. Note this feature: one thing the OSKit allows you to do is to configure things so you can run Kaffe/OSKit kernels as a Unix process and debug them with GDB. Of course you can debug the real kernel with remote GDB over a serial line, but the former method still has advantages. Good luck, and let us know how it goes! oskit-users@cs.utah.edu (the list) oskit@flux.cs.utah.edu (just utah) Flux Research Group Dept. of Computer Science University of Utah
