I do not recommend that you use a pre-compiled lsof binary. It is better that you compile lsof for yourself from the distributed sources. These binaries are for Solaris 8 (SunOS 5.8). They are organized first by application bit size, 32 or 64, then by Sun architecture type. By virtue of its use of libkvm, lsof for Solaris 8 must be built specifically for the bit size of the kernel on which it is to be used. !!!WARNING!!! !!!WARNING!!! !!!WARNING!!! !!!WARNING!!! DON'T TRY TO USE A 32 BIT LSOF ON A 64 BIT SOLARIS 7 KERNEL, OR A 64 BIT LSOF ON A 32 BIT SOLARIS 7 KERNEL. IT WON'T WORK. !!!WARNING!!! !!!WARNING!!! !!!WARNING!!! !!!WARNING!!! Lsof, compiled for a 32 bit kernel, when asked to execute on a 64 bit kernel, can detect the mismatch itself. In that case it issues a fatal error message and quits. Lsof, compiled for a 64 bit kernel, is denied execution by Solaris when the kernel size is 32 bits. Vic Abell February 17, 2004
